Are you worried that your computer might be infected by Ransomware? Here are three ways you can do right away
What
is the reason behind the increase in RANSOMWARE-related attacks?
One of the most important aspects is that what used to be
small-scale ransomware threats directed at individuals are now sophisticated
ransomware operations which are usually referred to as the area of RansomOps which are aided by the growing and distinctive
Ransomware Economy.
This is a departure from the typical ransomware threat
that was in the past, in which attackers used "spray and pray"
tactics against their victims and demanded a small amount of ransom. These days "spray and pray" are gone... with
the exception of the handful of.
They are , however, targeted advanced, sophisticated
attacks that operate similar to an APT-style attack that seeks to gain access
to as many of the system as is possible in advance of unleashing their
ransomware attacks. They want to increase the efficiency of
their attacks to the point that they can demand ransoms that could be as low as
several thousand dollars.
Cybereason recently released an informative White Paper
on this subject called RansomOps
within the Complex RansomOps as well as the Ransomware Economy in which we talked about how the
world of ransomware has dramatically changed in the past few years, shifting
from a small-scale business that was targeted for nuisance attacks, to a
sophisticated business strategies that are extremely efficient, and skilled
with an ever-increasing level of technological advancement and innovation.
The study examined the ways in which ransomware vendors
are moving away from large-scale attacks which do not require ransom but
instead focused on smaller specific attacks targeted at specific businesses that
were chosen because of their ability to cover huge-scale demands for ransom.
RANSOMWARE
RESPONSE to WARY CISOS
CISOs are aware of ever-growing security threats they
face. This is the reason they often believe that
ransomware-related criminals are most likely to target their companies in 2022.
According to research by ITPro Seven out of 10 CISOs
stated that they are likely to be affected by ransomware-related attacks in the
next 12 months. This is significantly more than the 53% of companies who
were affected by ransomware in the past year.
In the previous year, Cybereason published a study
called attacks on Ransomware and the Real Cost to
Business and
revealed the various expenses that businesses have to face after the attack of
ransomware. The main results that stood out were:
- The majority of
victims of ransomware said that they'd suffered significant loss in
revenue as a result of the attack
- More than half of
companies have had to fix their reputation and brand as a due to
ransomware attacks.
- The third victim
from ransomware are now without expertise at the C-level due to the
attack.
- Three of the ten
companies had to lay off employees because of financial pressures that
resulted from the threat of ransomware
- One-quarter of
ransomware victims reported they had to end the operation of their
businesses
In order to be prepared in the event that they become the
victims of ransomware-related attacks, CISOs should be aware of what they must
be doing in the case their company is targeted. It is due to the fact that U.S. Cybersecurity &
Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) offers the following guidelines for
businesses to adhere to. The following three guidelines stand out.
